At the Columbine Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, March meeting, Regent Monica Flinner-Ross, Veterans Committee Chris Fleischhacker,  and Chapter members honored Silas Wayne Coleman as the chapter DAR Outstanding Veteran Volunteer.

He has spent a lifetime dedicated to giving back to the community, to many active duty soldiers and to an untold number of other veterans like himself.  In addition to serving our country as a U.S. Marine, Coleman has supported members of the military over the years through the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Marine Corps Devil Dogs.  He has participated in and coordinated the final farewell ceremony for numerous veterans who have found their final resting places at Fort Logan and other military cemeteries in Colorado.

Regent Flinner-Ross presented Coleman with a flag of the United States of America flown over the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. on President’s Day, Feb. 17.  The accompanying certificate from Sen. Michael F. Bennet, who acknowledged Coleman’s volunteer activities as well as his WWII service.

The regent also presented Coleman and his wife, Tommie, with an historical book donated by chapter historian Krispin Andersen.  In addition, the Regent gave Mrs. Coleman a gift for her support of veterans.  The Colemans received a standing ovation from the members and guests.
